Best Bluetooth Speakers

Last Updated: Nov 18, 2019

I'm going to cut through the typical marketing nonsense and provide a short shopping list of the best Bluetooth Speakers in terms of quality at various price points on the market today. Companies that are dedicated to product quality and customer care do not necessarily have the largest marketing budgets or may not be as aggressive or effective strategically in acquiring customers as others, and therefore branding and sales volume may not reflect true quality and ultimately your satisfaction. Of course, being made aware of better options may now be the cause of dissatisfaction with prior purchases and increased expectations moving forward, and for this I apologize!

The list, below, is ordered from most expensive to budget friendly options with links to where they can be purchased. It's updated on a regular basis. Note that some products, such as from USA-made DiamondBoxx, are handmade in small quantities and typically sell out fast. Prices are indicative only. Click the Shop button for the latest price and availability.

The XL2 is the best and loudest Bluetooth Speaker money can buy. The build quality is incredible and has a thumping bass and Audiophile-quality sound production. Frequency response is 35-22kHz and can output over 121dB at 1000W with Class A/B amplifiers, 6 Subwoofers/Mid-Woofers and 8 tweeters.

I have owned the XL2 for over a year and rarely turn up the volume past 50% at home for fear my neighbors may call the police. A cheaper competing product at this level, called Soundboks, is a great alternative but nothing matches the XL2.

Model M3 is a smaller, lighter (only 11 lbs) and more portable package than the XL2 (above). It's built in the USA in small batches, delivers phenomenal sound quality and loudness with 400W of max power, Class A/B amplifiers and a frequency response of 50-22kHz. There is no distortion even at max volume. The M3 also comes with bass and treble tone controls to tailor the sound.

The sound quality, workmanship and materials, and reliability of DiamondBoxx products are unsurpassed.

The Aiwa brand of old has been brought back to life with new management and a high quality product line. The Exos-9 is a very loud Bluetooth stereo speaker with 200W output and delivers a punchy bass, balanced mids and crisp highs. There is no clipping at max volume. It also has a graphic equalizer.

The Exos-9 at this price is the best value option and the customer service is top notch.

For those that enjoy the Bose signature sound profile, the Revolve+ is a great quality product with 360 degree sound coverage. It's water resistant, lasts up to 16 hours on a battery charge, and can be used with Siri or Google Assistant. There is little distortion at high volume.

The Revolve+ is very well reviewed, but arguably, is priced a little high due to branding. It's still a great choice given portability, sound quality and functionality.

Two Danish companies, Libratone and Bang & Olufsen, produce some high-end audio products with a focus on refined aesthetics. At this price level, the Libratone Zipp is an excellent option with 360 degree sound coverage. It can be connected via Bluetooth or WiFi for extended range and higher bit-rate for enhanced sound clarity. The sound is brilliantly balanced. The lows are deep but not over-powering and mids and highs are accurate and clear. Max volume, however, is not particularly loud (if that's what you want).

Given the range of connection, control and streaming options, this speaker is more for the tech savvy user. Libratone provides excellent support.

The Onyx Studio 5 has amazing, crisp sound quality with emphasis on the bass. It has 50W output power, 50-20kHz frequency response, and a rechargeable battery supports up to 8 hours of playtime. This is an excellent buy at this price.
